AP INMATES ESCAPE A USA CA

"We understand that you are in danger. We understand that you are fearful," Sawyer said. "But it's an obligation that you come out and let us know" where they are.
Bac Duong, 43, Hossein Nayeri, 37, and Jonathan Tieu, 20, were discovered missing Friday, about 15 hours after they were present for an early morning head count.
Authorities say the men apparently cut through steel bars and duct work to climb to the roof. They cut through a section of razor wire and rappelled down using rope made from bed sheets or other material from their cells, authorities said. It was the first escape from the 900-inmate facility in 20 years.
Duong was being held without bond since last month on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm and other charges.
Tieu had been held since October 2013 on $1 million bond on charges of murder, attempted murder and shooting at an inhabited dwelling. His case is believed to be gang-related.
Nayeri was being held without bond, charged with kidnapping, torture, aggravated mayhem and burglary and has been held since September 2014. Nayeri and three other men are accused of kidnapping a California marijuana dispensary owner in 2012, driving him to a spot in the desert where they believed he had hidden money and then torturing him.

Florida State settles lawsuit with Jameis Winston accuser Erica Kinsman for $950,000

Florida State has settled a federal Title IX lawsuit with Erica Kinsman, a former student who said she was raped by quarterback  Jameis Winston  in 2012. The settlement was announced on Monday, more than a year after she initially filed the complaint in federal court. FSU agreed to pay Kinsman $950,000 – an amount that includes attorney’s fees – as well as make a five-year commitment to awareness, prevention and training programs. The lump sum is the largest settlement for Title IX claims regarding indifference to a student’s reported sexual assault. “I will always be disappointed that I had to leave the school I dreamed of attending since I was little,” Kinsman said in a statement. “I am happy that FSU has committed to continue making changes in order to ensure a safer environment for all students.” FSU did not admit to liability in the settlement, which university president John Thrasher said the school agreed to in order to avoid additional litigation e...

Coastal towns: 'This flooding is worse than Sandy'

Beach communities in New Jersey and Delaware were evaluating the aftermath from the massive winter storm as high tides washed out dunes and brought icy water into the streets. Delaware's sand-enriched beaches from  Lewes  to Fenwick Island  took a whipping as  dunes were flattened and wiped away . The ones that remained looked like a giant front-end loader came through and scooped off the face, leaving a jagged series of cliffs. Sand fencing lay crumpled like the tracks from a derelict roller coaster. And in Rehoboth, the boardwalk buckled in places from the force of waves pounding the boards from the bottom up. A frosting of sand an inch thick covered the popular attraction at the end of Rehoboth Avenue. The shoreline destruction was coastwide and included extensive bayshore flooding. It makes "us very, very vulnerable," said  Anthony Pratt , Delaware's shoreline and waterway administrator. The tally is bad: Gone is the entire dune at the n...
